The eports league promotes on-campus clubs for students to compete on behalf of their university in structured and governed tournaments.

This league is sanctioned by the Australian Esports Association who has launched the AESA University Committee to provide student representation and governance oversight.

It provides an opportunity for aspiring players to prove their skills among their peers and against rival universities.

In this year’s tournament, students will compete in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Hearthstone, Overwatch, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Tekken 7.

The competition is open to all students across Australia who have a passion for videogame culture and esports.

The competition will see the participation of over 1,000 students from 35 universities.

The tournament will be split into two stages and winners will stand a chance of winning cash prizes of up to $2,000.

The producer of the Australian Esports University League, Darren Kwan, said that the university league is excited to team up with the bubble tea brand for the 2020 season, which will be the third and biggest year of the university programme.

“A core objective for us is to promote a fun, safe and inclusive university esports ecosystem for students. This partnership further supports our ability to deliver the program, Chatime is a cool brand who believe in the growth of Australian grassroots esports.” Kwan added.

Head of Marketing of Chatime Australia, Tim Paton said that the bubble tea brand is youth-oriented, with half its customers under the age of 25 and a third of the students.

Paton also commented that the partnership was mutually beneficial as it provides an opportunity for the brand to actively engage with their key customer demographics in an activity they love.

“At Chatime, we celebrate curiosity, inclusiveness, and fun and we want to promote events and organisations that do the same. We love that almost anyone can enjoy esports regardless of their gender, strength or size and we can’t wait for the games to begin!” exclaimed Paton.
