Planning to do your Master’s degree in the academic year 2020-2021? If you’re eligible, why not apply for scholarships so you can save on tuition fees and/or expenses? Even if it’s a partial scholarship, you can still save a significant amount with a scholarship.

Completing your Master’s degree via distance learning is also a good way to upskill yourself and gain a higher qualification without compromising your full-time job or other commitments.

Seeing as travel restrictions are still in place in many countries around the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s probably a safer bet to apply for a scholarship for an online programme.

Here are three Master’s scholarships for international students that are offered for online programmes at UK universities.

Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships for Developing Commonwealth Countries

Scholarships under this programme are for those from least developed or middle-income commonwealth countries, for part-time Master’s study by distance learning on postgraduate courses offered by certain UK universities.

Candidates must already have secured admission to one of these Master’s courses to apply for the scholarship.

Scholarships are funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), with the aim of contributing to the UK’s international development aims and wider overseas interests, supporting excellence in UK higher education, and sustaining the principles of the Commonwealth.

Intended recipients of these Master’s scholarships are high-quality postgraduate students who “ wish to access training not available in their home countries, who wish or need to remain in their home country while they study, and who have the potential to enhance the development of their home countries with the knowledge and leadership skills they acquire,” according to the official website

They should also hold a first degree of at least upper second class standard, however, a lower qualification with sufficient relevant experience may be considered.

Applications for this year’s round have already been closed, but as it’s an annual scholarship you can still apply for next year.

Edinburgh Global Online Distance Learning Scholarships

The University of Edinburgh in the UK offers a number of scholarships for distance learning Master’s programmes at the university.

Scholarships will cover the full tuition fees of the normal duration of the programme of study, and applicants must already have been offered a place at the university, as well as showed intent to accept that offer.

You must also be a national from a list of eligible countries which you can find on the official website

The scholarship deadline is 1st June 2020, and you will receive an outcome of your application by August 2020.

The Glenmore Medical Online Postgraduate Scholarship

The University of Edinburgh is also offering one scholarship for an eligible online postgraduate Masters programme in the 2020-2021 academic session, covering full tuition fees for the duration of the programme.

The scholarships will be awarded to applicants particularly from Africa who are accepted for admission on one of the listed eligible Human Medical programmes on the official website.

The deadline to apply for this scholarship programme is 5th June 2020.
