3 research fellowships for Indian students in 2020

Indian students who are set to further their education in research fields this year have the opportunity to apply for scholarships, fellowships, and grants to support the research study of scholars in various fields next year.

These fellowships offered at graduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels play a significant role in providing support to academicians in the nation and support research in various fields including science, technology, engineering, and medicine.

YOU MIGHT LIKE

The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB)-National Post Doctoral Fellowship (NPDF) is designed to identify motivated young researchers and provide support for research in frontier areas of science and engineering.

This fellowship programme is open to Indian students, below 35 years old who have obtained a PhD, MD, or MS degree from a recognised university.

Students who have submitted their PhD, MD, or MS degree thesis and are currently awaiting the award of the degree are also eligible to receive this grant.

This fellowship grant will allow fellows to work under the guidance of a mentor with the said mentor not having more than two SERB NPDF fellows at any given time.

Successful fellows will be entitled to receive a fellowship of Rs. 55,000 a month while Rs. 35,000 will be offered to candidates who have submitted the thesis but have not received their degrees.

Additionally, research grants worth Rs. 2,00,000 per annum will be awarded to successful applicants. The research grant can be used for minor equipment, consumables, contingencies, and domestic travel.

The Institute Post-Doctoral Fellowship – IIT Ropar offers financial support to students who had completed their PhD degree and who have completed their PhD thesis under the supervision or co-supervision of IIT Ropar faculty members.

The fellowship offered is for a duration of three years and students can expect to receive a fellowship amount of Rs. 40,000 before completing their viva and Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 55,000 upon completion of the viva.

A contingency grant of Rs. 1,00,000  per annum will be provided to the Post-Doctoral Fellow for research purposes and any unspent amount can be carried over to the next financial year.

The IIT fellowship grant is open for application all year round.

The Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) fellowship programme aimed at promoting technical research studies and attract Indian students to pursue doctoral programmes at leading institutions in the country.

This fellowship programme is open for applications throughout the year and is open to students who have completed or are currently pursuing BTech, MTech, MSc, Integrated MTech MSc degrees.

Students are required to apply for a PhD programme at one of the PMRF granting institutes to qualify for the grant. This research fellowship grant is worth Rs 80,000 per month.
