Clinch a scholarship to pursue your PhD in public health at the University of Sydney

Are you interested in carving yourself a career in public health? According to reports, public health programmes have seen a surge since the pandemic unfolded. 

The programme will equip you with the knowledge and skills to make an impact in shaping the health of populations.

A PhD in public health can open the door to a vast area of careers, be it as a researcher, a consultant, an epidemiologist or even a public health policy advisor. You could also go into academia to teach students in university. 

Data shows that it pays to get an advanced degree.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics notes, for instance, that as workers’ educational attainment rises, their unemployment rates decrease and earnings increase.

“Each level of education you complete may help you develop more skills, give you access to higher paying occupations, and signal that you’re able to follow through on important tasks, such as planning ahead and meeting deadlines, that employers value,” it said. 

Their data shows that those with a doctoral degree, professional degree or master’s earn considerable more than undergraduate or high school diploma holders. 

The University of Sydney is currently offering a postgraduate research scholarship valued at $35,629 to provide financial assistance to a PhD student to undertake research in the field.

The university is ranked among the top 100 in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021. They are ranked fourth in the world in the 2020 QS Subject Rankings for public health research into sports and physical activity

What is the scholarship value?

This postgraduate scholarship is valued at $35,629 per annum and is tenable for up to 3  years.

Who’s eligible for this scholarship?

Australians who want to undertake research in public health.

Applicants must also have an unconditional offer of admission to study full-time in a PhD within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney.

What’s the selection criteria?

Accordion to the university, the successful applicant will be awarded the postgraduate scholarship on the basis of:

  • academic merit,
  • cover letter, and
  • academic referee reports.
