Cloud computing careers are on the rise. The pandemic has accelerated the demand for cloud solutions and services, which spells opportunities for those with expertise in the field.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment in computer and information technology occupations will grow 11% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations.

“These occupations are projected to add about 531,200 new jobs. Demand for these workers will stem from greater emphasis on cloud computing, the collection and storage of big data, and information security,” it said.

Meanwhile, reports project that the global cloud computing market size would grow from US$371.4 billion in 2020 to US$832.1 billion by 2025.

Cloud computing professionals can earn lucrative salaries. Glassdoor, for instance, notes that cloud engineers have an average base pay of 110,692 US dollars per annum.

Cloud engineers largely deal with duties related to cloud computing, including designing, developing, testing, managing, maintaining, and evaluating computer systems that support the implementation of cloud services.

This data suggests that the future looks bright for cloud computing professionals, making it an area worth exploring for those who want to update their credentials.

Develop in-demand cloud computing skills

If you’re interested in developing some cloud computing skills, Coursera recently announced a partnership with Tencent Cloud to offer a series of courses designed to help learners develop in-demand cloud skills.

Tencent Cloud offers cloud products and services to organisations worldwide; the company brings deep technical expertise to the Coursera learner platform.

Coursera notes: “Our new partnership aims to equip learners for these emerging roles, drawing from Tencent Cloud’s work developing cloud solutions for a wide range of sectors. The company has a notable presence globally, with a growing infrastructure network that now spans across 27 regions.”

Currently, learners can enrol in Tencent Cloud Practitioner.

This beginner-level course is primarily aimed at cloud professionals that are interested in learning about Tencent Cloud products and services and aims to equip learners with foundational cloud knowledge and prepares them to take the Tencent Cloud Practitioner examination.

Learners will be able to explain the different features, advantages, use cases, and billing methods of several core Tencent Cloud products after completing this course, notes Coursera. It takes approximately eight hours to complete.
