Are you a business owner who’s looking to enhance your management capabilities and boost your business’s performance, resilience and long-term growth? Do you want the opportunity to weave in learning around your existing commitments?

Nottingham University Business School is one of the first business schools in the country working towards the government’s target of engaging 30,000 SMEs over three years through Help to Grow: Management.

The Help to Grow scheme was announced by the UK government during the tabling of the 2021 budget. The programme aims at helping businesses across the UK learn new skills, reach new customers and boost profits.

Grow your business to its full potential

Aimed at senior leaders in small and medium businesses, Help to Grow: Management is an in-depth, high-quality curriculum that covers strategies for growth and innovation, leading high-performance teams and digital adoption, as well as financial management and responsible business practices.

You are eligible for the programme if you’re a key decision-maker or member of the senior management team of the business.

The course includes 50 hours of in-depth training, including one-to-one business mentoring by one of Nottingham University Business School’s experienced business leaders. Ultimately, this provides you with the opportunity to grow your business quickly.

Whether you want to enhance your management and strategic capabilities, develop a growth plan for your business, build resilience to future shocks or adopt digital technologies to boost productivity and operational agility, the course can help you to achieve this and more.

Business leaders from across the region have already seen the benefits. This includes John Palmer, Co-owner of Station Road Steam, who said: “The Help to Grow: Management course couldn’t have come at a better time for me.

“I’ve had a huge amount of learning condensed into a short time, with a huge amount of support from the staff at Nottingham University Business School. I’ve never felt as engaged and empowered with my business as I do now — I’d recommend the course to anyone running an SME.”

The 12-week course costs just £750 and is 90% subsidised by the government. Business leaders can take part around existing work commitments and access learning through a blend of online and face-to-face sessions — convenient learning that also incorporates the on-campus and networking experience.

Learn from leading academics

Nottingham University Business School is among top business schools across the UK and Ireland awarded the Small Business Charter in recognition of their ongoing work to support small businesses, local economies and student entrepreneurship.

As a Russell Group university, Nottingham University Business School is experienced in delivering management training to SMEs and business leaders.

Help to Grow: Management combines insights from their academics specialising in the topics studied, alongside business practitioners who share their wealth of experience with you. As a participant, you’ll share ideas through peer-to-peer networking as an integral part of the learning experience.

Programme Director Dr Robert Wapshott said: “Here at Nottingham University Business School, we are providing a business-relevant experience for our Help to Grow: Management participants. After six months of running the programme, we are already seeing how by taking part, SME leaders are applying their learning to benefit their businesses.

A particular highlight of the programme is the inclusion of 10 hours of expert mentoring for each individual delegate, underlining the practical nature of the course.

Harpreet Daurka-Braich, Head of Operational Procurement at Constellia, explained: “The support provided throughout the Help to Grow: Management scheme has been great. I have found the one-to-one mentoring sessions particularly helpful, providing great advice on how I can help our business grow.”

As a mentor on Help to Grow: Management, Alastair Campbell, who is the CEO of Hurricane Works, said he listens and understands the issues of participants and guides them to find solutions they can use in real-life based on his experience.

“I find that they do know the ways to achieve what they want and having someone help confirm and shape their decisions is the most valuable part of mentoring,” he said.

“By attending Help to Grow: Management, they get to do three things: first, hear from their peers about similar challenges and solutions; second, learn from people who have ‘been there, done that’; and third, expand their understanding across the wide range of topics that Help to Grow: Management covers.”

By the end of the programme, you will develop a tailored business growth plan to increase productivity and grow your revenue and help take your business to the next level.
